Communications Specialist

California Professional Firefighters represents over 35,000 career firefighters across the state. CPF seeks an energetic Communications Specialist who will play a key role in creating content for digital and social media channels, growing the online audience, and contributing content to traditional media channels.

The Communications Specialist will report to the Communications Director and be part of a dynamic and creative team that is growing CPF’s digital communications presence and overall outreach goals.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include:

Ideate and develop engaging content for social media platforms.

Assist in the development of social media copy, videos, and graphics.

Create, manage, and maintain social media content calendars.

Write and edit web/email marketing content.

Manage and update web properties including multiple organizational websites, LinkedIn, etc.

Stay current with digital communications technologies and trends; recommend changes as appropriate.

Keep up to date on social media and digital best practices.

Write articles for the CPF quarterly magazine and draft content for brochures.

Manage Communications team email inbox for inquiries

Track and organize organizational earned media hits

Collaborate with colleagues across CPF and affiliated organizations.

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, political science, journalism, or related field.

1-2 years of experience in communications, public relations, or news media.

Strong writing and editing skills.

Experience with email marketing programs like Salsa, Campaigner, or similar.

Ability to manage multiple projects under strict deadlines.

Basic video, photography, and use of editing software is preferred

Experience with online advertising.

Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Content Management System (CMS) platforms.

Familiarity with/understanding of organized labor, state and local politics, and the legislative process. Understanding of and familiarity with the California fire service is a plus.
